When spiritual authority crosses into control, how do you recognize it—and why is it so hard to name while you're inside it?

 
In this special edition of the Praying Christian Women podcast, Jaime and Alana take a break from the usual Prayer Through the Psalms series to share a deeply personal interview from their true crime podcast series, Christian True-Crime Junkies.

Coinciding with Spiritual Abuse Awareness Month, this is Part 1 of a 3-part conversation exploring Alana's harrowing experience in a Christian cult during her college years—a story she is sharing in depth for the first time.

What began as a faith community rooted in belonging and purpose slowly revealed patterns of manipulation, control, and spiritual abuse. Through Alana's firsthand account, we unpack how high-control religious environments form, why intelligent and faith-seeking young adults are especially vulnerable, and how Scripture, obedience, and "submission" can be weaponized to silence questions and override personal discernment.
