Alarming cases of food poisoning have raised concerns around food safety as multiple cases affecting children have been reported. About 74 matriculants were hospitalized for food poisoning last week after having a meal at a school, 6 children died in Soweto after consuming snacks from a local spaza shops and, 25 pupils were hospitalized for suspected food poisoning. Last month, the Gauteng department reported 207 cases of food poisoning since February, with 10 deaths.
