The Department of Human Settlements is reportedly exploring legal actions against beneficiaries who illegally sell their RDP houses, indicating a focus on tightening enforcement. A policy review could involve adjusting the eight-year resale restriction, enhancing oversight to prevent illegal transactions, or addressing beneficiary dissatisfaction by improving the location and quality of RDP housing developments. The review might also consider aligning with the Breaking New Ground (BNG) policy, which emphasizes sustainable human settlements with access to amenities like schools, clinics, and economic opportunities, potentially reducing the incentive for beneficiaries to sell their homes. Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is in conversation with Department of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane.
