Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) is commonly known as a set of practices that companies implement to limit their negative impacts or to enhance positive impacts within the communities in which they operate to create a shared value. This can be seen in instances where companies build schools or clinics for the benefit of the community. As of late, with the evident changing climate and general move towards environmentally friendly operations and products, the popularisation of ESG criteria in business operations and strategies shows the growing importance of sustainability in the long run and the responsibility businesses have or should have in protecting the communities they conduct operations in. In this conversation we want to get into the importance of ESG in business as well as the overall benefits ESG targets have for communities. Pitso Kortjaas from the Finance & Banking Department at Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr and Ron Stuart, Head of Markets and ESG Lead at KPMG join Lerato Mbele for the conversation.
