The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court sentenced Hein Odendaal, 68, the former Steinhoff audit executive, after he pleaded guilty on Thursday. The court sentenced Odendaal, from Gauteng, to a fine of R2 million or, alternatively, to four years’ imprisonment. The Border Management Authority (BMA) has placed 38 officials under disciplinary action as part of an ongoing crackdown on corruption at South Africa’s ports of entry. This follows the earlier dismissal of 50 immigration officers found guilty of corrupt activities, Mondli Makhanya spoke to Dr Mike Masiapato, Commissioner of the Border Management Authority.
