The Africa Risk-Reward Index

View descriptionShare

Oxford Economics recently unveiled its eighth edition of the Africa Risk-Reward Index, a valuable tool that assesses the ever-changing investment landscape across significant African markets. Zimbabwe emerges as the riskiest destination for business ventures in Africa, concurrently ranking lowest in terms of potential investment returns on the continent. Meanwhile, countries such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, Egypt, Congo, Cameroon, and Mozambique are classified as offering a high-risk, high-reward tradeoff, highlighting the potential for substantial gains amid substantial uncertainties. South Africa finds itself positioned somewhere in between this spectrum. In this conversation we want to delve into the specific metrics employed in constructing this index and extract the valuable insights it imparts about the African landscape in the year 2023. Lead Political Economist at Oxford Economics Africa Francios Conradie and Independent Political Economist Mandla Lionel Isaacs join Lerato Mbele for the conversation.
