The legal community and mining industry are mourning the loss of Chinette Gallichan, a legal practitioner for Sibanye-Stillwater, who was fatally shot by unknown assailants on Monday. The incident occurred in broad daylight near the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices at the corner of Fox and Joubert Streets. Gallichan was reportedly targeted while actively representing the mining giant in a labor dispute. Mondli Makhanya spoke to Don Mahon SC, Chairman of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates.
