A major breakthrough in quantum technology was achieved in October 2024: the first-ever quantum satellite communication link between China and South Africa. The connection spanned a remarkable 12,900km: the longest intercontinental quantum communication link established to date. Common schemes include fraudulent Letters of Executorship (LOE), identity theft, and fake inheritance notifications via SMS/email demanding "fees" to release funds. The Master’s Office is frequently exploited, and scams often target retirement funds and life policies.Helen Du Toit, member of the Association for Savings and Investment South urges the public to be more vigilant)
