The Eastern Cape province has been confronted by taxi strikes that have disrupted both Mkhanda and Gqeberha. Hundreds of taxis from GRATA and Uncedo taxi associations, today saw most businesses closed across the city and minimal attendance at public schools. In Gqeberha, taxi drivers disrupted by way of several roadblocks and violent protests. The drivers are demanding answers about their Covid-19 Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) funds. In the next half hour we look into both protests and how they have affected residents at large.
