The Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie has dissolved the Council of the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) with immediate effect, citing the body’s failure to resolve a long-running labour dispute and concerns over governance issues. Legal President Cyril Ramaphosa is taking the 2022 Section 89 independent panel report on Phala Phala to judicial review. The review is separate from Parliament’s impeachment inquiry. Under the ConCourt ruling, the inquiry proceeds unless a court sets aside the Section 89 report. If the High Court finds the panel report flawed, it could be set aside and the basis for impeachment would fall away. One of the respondents in the court case is the ATM. The ATM was the first political party to push for accountability and answers in this matter.Vuyo Zungula ATM tells us why they want the President to account on this matter.
