Stress in South Africa is not really considered to be a mental health condition, despite its prevalence due to an array of things that are a reality in this country such as the rising cost of living and interest rates against a salary that has remained the same since two years ago. Research on employee wellness in South Africa shows that more and more South African employees are taking time off from work or require sick leave because of stress alone. Additionally, a 2019 Bloomberg Business survey placed South Africa as the second most stressed country in the world, after Nigeria, basing this on the rates of homicides, household income and income inequality and corruption.
