View descriptionShare

On Monday, the family of the esteemed Carlos Djedje, affectionately known as the KING OF THE JUNGLE and Father of South African reggae, announced his passing at Kalafong Hospital in the early hours of the morning. Carlos Marisana Djedje was recognised as a trailblazer in bringing Reggae music to Africa. He was not only a legendary music promoter but also an activist and freedom fighter who played a crucial role in the South African liberation struggle through his musical contributions. Djedje, the creative force behind albums like "Remember Them," "No Apartheid," and "Ahoy Africa," viewed his mission as intricately tied to the fight for freedom, with his lyrics often addressing the injustices of apartheid. This globally renowned reggae icon traversed the world, leaving his mark in diverse places such as Japan, Spain, Sweden, Germany, Soweto, Malaysia, the UK, America, ESwatini, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, and more. Today we pay tribute to his life. President of the Rastafari United Front Ras Thau Thau Haramanuba and Managing Director of Drakensberg Promotions Dr Sam Mangwani join Morio Sanyane for the conversation.
