Internal auditors, by virtue of their mandate, may inevitably unearth wrongdoing in their organisations. However, they sometimes inadvertently cross paths with the wrong people by exposing them or touching their sacred cows. For this conversation, Aldrin speaks to the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Auditor General Sakhumzi Somyo, and the CEO of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa Julius Mojapelo and they look into the profession of internal auditing in the country and try to ascertain how widespread challenges in the sector are, the reported culture of fear in public and private organisations where findings raised that implicate leaders in organisations normally lead to the non-protection and threatening of internal auditors.
