This past weekend, Helen Zille was re-elected as the DA's federal council chairperson at its congress at Gallagher Estate Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg. She first served in her current position in 2019. Federal leader John Steenhuisen was also re-elected to lead the DA in preparation for next year's elections. Zille has remained a prominent figure for the party since its formation in 2000 from the Democratic Party. From 2009 until 2019, she was the Premier of the Western Cape province for two five-year terms and a member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. She served as Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance from 2007 to 2015 and as Mayor of Cape Town from 2006 to 2009. She joins Lerato Mbele as this week’s Leadership Dialogue guest.
