Laying down the basics on SA’s Legal System

View descriptionShare

South Africa has 15 different courts which all serve very different functions. To name a few, we have: The Constitutional Court, the Supreme Court of Appeal, High courts, Circuit courts, Special income tax courts, Labour courts, Small claims courts, Child justice courts, Mpumelelo Zikalala, Attorney Advocate Prince Mafu, Constitutional Law Expert & Director, Malwandla Law Chambers Community courts and Sexual offences courts – that’s just to name a few. And to add to that, within those courts there are different procedures, different cases and different actions that can take place. Despite our general interest in high-profile legal cases, it is easy to get lost in the legal jargon of it all. Mpumelelo Zikalala, who is an attorney, and Advocate Prince Mafu, constitutional law expert and director of Malwandla Law Chambers join Lerato Mbele to break the basics of the South African legal system starting with understanding the roles of the different courts in the country, along with the differences between a state versus private prosecution for instance and more.
