Idioms and Proverbs are language aspects that are part of everyday experiences; they result from a person’s observation of what surrounds her or him in her or his environment. The purpose of using idioms and proverbs is, among others, to enrich language. To succeed in using idiomatic language, one has to use one’s imagination and be able to be witty with words. This will help improve the language proficiency of the Home Language or mother-tongue speakers of Setswana. In this edition of the Language Corner, we focus on idioms and popular proverbs in Setswana.
