In Cape Town, a bullet is fired approximately every 47 minutes across a 10km² area known for intense gang violence. This area includes Nyanga, Hanover Park, Manenberg, and Lavender Hill, where ShotSpotter, a gunshot detection system, has been implemented. Between January and August, ShotSpotter recorded over 7,400 rounds fired in more than 2,650 incidents. Lerato Mbele is in conversation with Ralph Clark, CEO of Sound Thinking.
