From adjusting the weather to pulling water from thin air, innovative technology is being used to help find a sustainable supply of drinking water for the world, called Cloud Seeding. A bubble bath, a pack of 48 toilet rolls, designer binders and fancy pencil cases. These are some of the demands schools have made as pupils prepare to return to school for the 2025 academic year. This has left many parents confused, worried, angry and voicing their frustration. Lerato Mbele speaks to Siyabulela Makunga, spokesperson of the Competition Commission, Steve Mabona, spokesperson of the Gauteng department of basic education and, Matakanye Matakanye from the National Association of School Governing Bodies.

The African National Congress (ANC) – Africa’s oldest liberation movement – is celebrating 113 years of existence this weekend. This year’s January 8 Statement rally will be held at Nelson Mandela Park at Khayelitsha in Cape Town on Saturday. The ANC has been the governing party since the first democratic elections in 1994, marking the country’s political liberation from apartheid. However, in last year’s general elections, it failed to win an outright majority in parliament – giving rise to the formation of a government of national unity. Lerato Mbele is joined by deputy secretary-general of the ANC, Maropene Ramokgopa.
