For many of us, the representation of a gay couple on television was first seen on South Africa’s popular soapie, Generations, with the characters Senzo and Jason’s relationship. Behind one of the characters, Jason Malinga, is the artist, actor and television personality, Zolisa Xaluva who has since gone on to reinvent himself in many other memorable roles. Before Generations, Zolisa was cast as Lwazi Mboweni on SABC 1’s drama series Tsha Tsha and also went on to land a role on Rhythm City as HHP’s Manager. In 2008, he appeared on SABC’s mini-series uGugu no Andile as well as in season 2 of the drama series Tshisa. He played Melusi on Mzansi’s Magic drama series Gomora and Mogomotsi Masire on Netflix’s Kings of Joburg. What might not be known to many is that he is also a playwright having been part of several motion pictures. He joins Lerato Mbele as this week’s special guest in the spotlight.
