The historical architecture of South African jazz music and the lengths to which it can evolve is nothing without the greats such as Caiphus Semenya. We’re talking about timeless songs living through generations from Angelina and Ziphi’nkomo to Matswale and Mamase with his beloved wife Letta Mbulu. A story of a jazz maestro from the township Alexandra, exiled for almost 30-years to greener pastures to shape the future of music in the country. Born in 1939, Ntate Caiphus Semenya has gone on to achieve great milestones including having his first show at 16, producing with Quincy Jones, producing for Michael Jackson and Disney’s Lion King. The Oscar-nominated and Emmy-award winning legend joins Lerato Mbele to walk us through his illustrious career.
