Kitty Phetla is a South African ballet dancer who was born in Soweto in 1983. She began dancing in elementary school and was chosen by her future mentor, Martin Schoenberg, who recognised her talent and trained her until she was 25. With Schoenberg she learned ballet, Spanish dance, contemporary dance, and Afro-fusion.
She joined his Ballet Theatre Afrikan and remained there until 2002, when she moved to Joburg Ballet.
