Professor Anthony Figaji, Head of Paediatric Neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town and Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, leads research that is improving the understanding and treatment of severe brain conditions in children. His work focuses on the clinical management of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and central nervous system (CNS) infections such as bacterial and tuberculous meningitis, using real-time brain monitoring and direct sampling of cerebrospinal fluid.
