A recent study commissioned by the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has revealed a troubling trend: public demand for democracy among South Africans has plummeted to an all-time low. According to the latest voter participation survey released by the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC), which tracks public confidence in the nation’s democratic systems, the enthusiasm for a democratic framework has eroded significantly over the last two decades.
