Last week, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC) in South Africa experienced a 17-hour IT shutdown for urgent maintenance, leading to the implementation of a new customer verification process on its website. This follows a recent data breach exposing personal details of clients and employees, with a ransomware group claiming responsibility. The CIPC acknowledged the seriousness of the breach but noted a wider trend of increased cyber-attacks in South Africa.
