Commenting on potential fraud and limiting audit efforts around Covid-19 funds, auditor-general Kimi Makwetu says: "It is inconsiderable that in month four you would find it difficult to produce documents to prove transactions. On request of president Cyri Ramaphosa, the auditor-general's office undertook an audit of 16 of the key Covid-19 initiatives introduced by government, and the management of R147.4 billion of the funds made available for these initiatives. The report has found significant issues with government’s Covid-19 relief fund for workers, which resulted in overpayments, underpayments, and the invalid rejection of beneficiaries, fraud and double-dipping.
