South Africa’s taxi industry in most prevalent parts such as Gauteng and Durban are on strike. Minibus taxis, which are the most accessible and frequently used mode of transport for most South Africans, are estimated to transport 15 million passengers daily. Currently, long-distance taxi drivers in Durban are on strike for the 5th day following the impounding of most of their taxis on permit issues. The strike has been ongoing for days now, leaving commuters stranded.
