The Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, commonly known as the Pan Africanist Congress (PAC) originated as a South African liberation movement and later transformed into a political party. Formed by a group of Africanists led by Robert Sobukwe, the PAC separated from the African National Congress (ANC) in 1959 due to disagreements over the ANC's stance on land ownership and rejection of a multiracial perspective. Instead, the PAC advocated for a South Africa rooted in African nationalism. In the 2019 general election, the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania, under the leadership of Narius Moloto, secured 32,468 votes (0.19%), earning a single seat in Parliament. This marked a decrease in support compared to the 2014 election, where the PAC garnered 37,784 votes, reflecting a decline of about 5,000 votes. The party’s National Chairperson Sbusiso Xaba joins Lerato Mbele for the conversation.
