View descriptionShare

In January, the Basketball Africa League (BAL), a collaboration between the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and NBA Africa, declared that its eagerly awaited fourth season will commence on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, South Africa. The upcoming 2024 BAL season promises to showcase the prowess of the top 12 club teams from 12 African nations, engaging in a groundbreaking 48 games across Pretoria, Cairo (Egypt), Dakar (Senegal), and Kigali (Rwanda) over a span of four months. This milestone season not only marks the debut of BAL games in South Africa but also represents the league's inaugural venture into four distinct countries. As anticipation builds for this momentous kickoff, it's opportune to explore the evolving landscape of basketball within Africa. The sport is experiencing exponential growth across the continent, evidenced by the burgeoning presence of approximately 16 African-born players in the prestigious National Basketball Association (NBA). Cape Town Tigers CEO Raphael Edwards and Co-Captain of the Cape Town Tigers Lebesa Selepe join Lerato Mbele for the conversation.
