The AARTO (Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences) system, which is currently operational in Gauteng, specifically in the municipalities of Johannesburg and Tshwane (Pretoria), is set to be implemented nationwide in due course. The system represents a significant shift in how traffic fines and violations are managed in South Africa, introducing a demerit point system alongside existing fines.
