The South African Revenue Service has surpassed the R2 trillion mark in revenue for the first time, with collections reaching just over R2.01 trillion in the 2025/26 financial year, an 8.4% increase year-on-year . Trade union federation Congress of South African Trade Unions has welcomed this as a sign of improved tax compliance and a turning point in rebuilding public institutions, but it also raises deeper questions about fairness, economic pressure, and whether this revenue will translate into better service delivery.
