When people are forced to shut down roads, take to the streets and disrupt their own communities just
to get the attention of those in power, it raises a difficult question about the state of democracy and public accountability in South Africa. From water shortages and electricity outages to housing backlogs and broken municipal promises, many residents feel that being heard requires more than simply raising a concern. This morning, we examine whether civic activism still has the power to drive meaningful change, why communities are losing patience, and what it will take to turn public frustration into lasting solutions. FROM COMMUNITY PROTESTS TO REAL SOLUTIONS: IS CIVIC ACTIVISM STILL WORKING?

Africa is facing a series of interconnected challenges, from Ebola concerns testing public health
systems to ongoing conflicts displacing millions and climate risks threatening food and water security. While early warnings and regional response plans are in place, questions remain about whether African governments are prepared to act before these crises escalate. This morning, we unpack whether Africa is building the resilience needed to protect its people, strengthen regional cooperation and respond to the next major crisis.

ACROSS AFRICA: EBOLA, CONFLICT AND CLIMATE RISKS: IS AFRICA PREPARED FOR ITS NEXT CRISIS?

Women are often expected to be nurturing mothers, supportive partners, dependable daughters, successful professionals and caregivers who always seem to have everything under control. Somewhere between meeting everyone else’s needs and fulfilling the roles society expects of them, many women begin to lose touch with their own identities, dreams and desires. They become so accustomed to showing up for everyone else that they forget what it means to show up for themselves. But what happens when a woman no longer recognises the person she has become? We explore the emotional cost of constantly putting others first, the guilt that comes with choosing yourself, and the journey of rediscovering who you are beyond the roles you play. Kefengtse Mkhari is in conversation with Author and Speaker, Phoebe Strachan

WHEN A WOMAN LOSES HERSELF TRYING TO BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE

We are living in a time where expensive clothes, the latest gadgets, luxury experiences and the appearance of success have become important markers of status, even among young people who are unemployed or have no stable source of income. But what happens when the lifestyle does not match the financial reality? Are parents asking the difficult questions about where the money comes from, or have we become so comfortable with appearances that we no longer challenge questionable decisions? Beyond individual choices, we must also examine the role of families and communities in teaching financial responsibility, accountability and the value of working towards what we want. This morning, we unpack the pressure to look successful, the influence of social media, the role of parenting and whether society has become too afraid to hold young people accountable. Kefentse Mkhari is in conversation with Social Commentator, Letlhogonolo Tlhogi Mosuwe
