Imagine a child struggling to read or spell, not because they aren’t capable of learning, but because the tools used to identify their learning difficulties don’t speak their language. In South Africa, dyslexia can still go undiagnosed, particularly when children face language barriers or limited access to appropriate assessments.

Bellavista School, a specialist school in Johannesburg for children with barriers to learning, is working to change that by developing dyslexia screening tools in local languages. This week on our Feel Good segment, we explore why identifying dyslexia early matters, how language can influence the screening process, and what this development could mean for children, parents and teachers across South Africa.
