Zimbabwe unrest

View descriptionShare

A planned national protest demanding Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa's resignation faltered as citizens stayed home instead of marching, citing a heavy security presence. Despite the efforts of disgruntled war veterans accusing Mnangagwa of corruption and power-grabbing, only a few protesters participated, and they were quickly dispersed by police. After reports of a weak turnout, protest leader Blessed Geza urged Zimbabweans to stand up in a post on X. We spoke to Tino Mclean, political commissar general of ZIYA, about the events.
