Hunger in South Africa is not driven by food scarcity, but by deeply unequal food systems. Millions of people still lack access to nutritious meals, with children among the hardest hit. Despite constitutional protections, weak governance and policy failures continue to entrench deprivation and inequality. We speak to Dr Busiso Moyo, a member of the UAH secretariat and postdoctoral researcher, to unpack the structural drivers of hunger and what meaningful reform could look like.
