The Kungwini Amalgamated Workers Union (KAWU) is urging the North West provincial Treasury to terminate contracts with security companies failing to comply with a collective bargaining agreement for workers' health benefits. Since March 2021, the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector approved a health insurance scheme managed by Affinity Health, covering chronic disease management, consultations, and more. However, KAWU and other unions uncovered fraud, where companies misappropriated health insurance funds. This led to the "Operation Pay-Back-the-Money" protest in February 2023.
