On the 1st of March 2023, The Safety and Security Bargaining Council facilitated a conciliation process between members of the South African Police Service and Minister Bheki Cele. This was on a dispute over the incorporation of public service act members into the police act of 1995. Police unions launched the dispute with the employer accusing him of reneging on a 2011 commitment to employ the workers who are mostly admin staff under the police act, we speak to Tumelo Mogodiseng, Secretary-general of the South African Policing Union (Sapu) on PowerZone with Nompumelelo Ngubeni, standing in for Katlego Legodi.
