SOUTH AFRICA REOPENS STEVE BIKO INQUEST

View descriptionShare

We spoke to Historian & author of Now You Know How Mapetla Died: The Story of a Black Consciousness Martyr, about South Africa reopening the inquest into Steve Biko’s 1977 death. Biko, a leader of the Black Consciousness Movement, died in police custody after being tortured. The apartheid regime had dismissed it as an accident, but the new probe aims to uncover the truth, providing closure for his family and the nation. The inquiry revisits the infamous “room 619” where Biko’s final days unfolded.
