Amnesty International has expressed grave concern over the transfer of more than 170 death row prisoners to Angenga prison in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), fearing imminent mass executions. Sarah Jackson, Amnesty’s Deputy Regional Director, condemned the lack of transparency surrounding the prisoners' status and called for an immediate halt to the executions. She urged President Felix Tshisekedi to publicly stop any planned executions and for the DRC Parliament to impose a moratorium on the death penalty, paving the way for its eventual abolition.
