Government forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo

View descriptionShare

Government forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) quashed a coup attempt on Saturday night, involving both foreign and Congolese participants. The leader, U.S.-based Congolese Christian Malanga, was killed. In related news, two U.S. citizens on trial claimed coercion by Malanga. Africa has seen seven coups since August 2020, including recent ones in Burkina Faso and Gabon. Meanwhile, the former British PM’s son pleaded guilty to a mercenary plot in South Africa. We Speak to Tapiwa Diamond Chadya, Afro-Expert in Democracy, Governance and Human Rights.
