Following the 2018 Constitutional Court ruling affirming adults’ right to use cannabis privately, the Cannabis for Private Purposes Act 7 of 2024 legalized cultivation and possession in private spaces. Despite this, enforcement issues persist, with arrests of legally permitted users, prompting the SAHRC to call for adherence to citizens’ constitutional rights.
