Following the Eastern Cape's recent failure to host a successful elective conference, the national leadership of the African National Congress (ANC) has stepped in to manage the province. Although early reports claimed that party leaders had completely dissolved or disbanded the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC), the ANC has since refuted those assertions. Setting the record straight, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula clarified that the PEC was not officially disbanded; instead, its legal term of office had simply lapsed before a provincial conference could be organized to elect new leadership.
