The Municipal Worker’s Retirement Fund (MWRF) has raised alarms about municipalities failing to make pension contributions for permanent employees, which could jeopardize their benefits under the upcoming retirement fund changes. Workers are worried they might not qualify for claims due to their employers' non-compliance. MWRF's Principal Officer, Themba Mfeka, stated that the fund has been pursuing legal action against several defaulting municipalities since 2007, including those in Free State and Northern Cape, to recover owed contributions. We are in conversation with Pension Funds Adjudicator, Muvhango Lukhaimane about this as well as development on some of the cases in progress regarding municipalities defaulting on fund contributions.
