April is Freedom Month — a commemoration of South Africa’s first democratic elections in 1994. It marks the end of apartheid and the beginning of a constitutional democracy. But for many, the freedom promised then has not fully materialised. Inequality, unemployment, poor public services, and ongoing discrimination continue to define life for millions. TT is in conversation with the Head of the Sustained Dialogues Programme at the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation, Felicity Harrison, Director at Centre for Sociological Research and Practice at the University of Johannesburg, Dr Trevor Ngwane, PhD candidate at North West University focusing on issues of race and reconciliation, Johan Erasmus.
