The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has been authorised to investigate allegations of maladministration within the Department of Defence and to recover any losses that the State may have incurred. President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed Proclamation 260 of 2025, which empowers the SIU to examine serious cases of maladministration.
