Dr Nombasa Tsengwa has more than 19 years of executive management and board experience in the public and private sector and is one of the hardest-working leaders in the industry. Having been appointed as Acting Executive Head of Coal Operations in 2016, and subsequently as Executive Head of Coal Operations in July 2016 - and MD for Minerals in July 2020, Dr Nombasa's accomplishments are evidenced in the performance of the growth engine of Exxaro - which is its coal business, that continues to deliver unrivalled value to all its stakeholders. Over the last 9 years, Dr Nombasa's, accomplishments have been characterised by innovative ideas, strategic thinking and, most valuable, her tireless efforts to increase the credibility, contributions and prominence of Exxaro in the mining sector. Under her leadership, Exxaro has expanded its geographical diversity, while nourishing its project, cost, and capital management skills. For example, the company allocated over R17bn to growth capex and generated an average ROCE of 25% since 2017.
