The organisation said ​the MMC for environment and infrastructure services Nico de Jager, had failed to engage with them.

The City of Johannesburg's City Power paid a politically connected businessman R12 million for a critical infrastructure project months before work was done, allegedly contravening the law, during a year in which the utility lost R2.8 billion. In March last year, Thato Moseme's company, Slide Exhibits, received R12 million to install public lighting in the City, despite junior staff warning that the payment flouted Treasury regulations that are in line with the Municipal Finance Management Act and the Public Finance Management Act. The government must save money by eliminating maladministration and corruption, standing committee on public accounts chair Songezo Zibi says. Parliament’s chairs of the finance cluster committees briefed the media yesterday ahead of the budget speech, which will be delivered today.
