Phaladi Molewa’s faith in the justice system had been deeply eroded by years of unresolved tragedies that plagued his family. The murders of his brother and sister in the 1990s, both of which remained unsolved despite initial arrests, had left him disillusioned and skeptical about the prospect of accountability. Reflecting on these past injustices, Molewa had viewed the system as incapable of delivering justice, a sentiment compounded by the brutal loss of his daughter, Sarah. His reluctance to attend Sithokozile Mkhize’s bail hearing had underscored his lack of trust in the process, as he chose to distance himself until the trial began. For Molewa, the system’s repeated failure to provide closure had turned what should have been a source of hope into a painful reminder of unresolved grief and systemic inadequacy. Thabiso Tema spoke with Phaladi Molewa, Father of Sarah Molewa who was murdered by her boyfriend in 2012.
