Beneficiaries of the Ikageleng Land Release Programme in Lesedi Local Municipality are accusing local authorities of failing to deliver on promised technical support, specifically free building plans. While residents were allocated serviced sites to build their own homes, they claim the municipality has not provided the necessary assistance to begin construction. In pursuit of clarity regarding the status of the programme, we also engaged the Lesedi Local Municipality Manager, the South African Human Rights Commission and the Gauteng MEC of Human Settlements. Thabiso Tema spoke to Nora Bonga a beneficiary of Ikageleng Land Release Programme.
