Black farmers association and LFP Group get into bed

The Bakwena Ba Mogopa nation say that for the longest time, the community has struggled with leadership. This is at the backdrop of the North West Community going under administration periodically over the years. The Bakwena Platinum Trust under Ba Mogopa Platinum Investment is the special-purpose vehicle holding the community’s 26% share in the Glencore mine. Glencore admitted that between 2011 and 2014 over R28 million was paid in the trust’s account but from June 2018 the trust’s share has been paid in the trust account of Werksmans Attorneys after allegations that Mamogale had been dealing with the trust property improperly. Morio Sanyane unpacked this with the Chairperson of the Bakwena Ba Mogopa Community Development Foundation, Pamela Segakweng.

This emerged from the review of the joint committee on ethics and members’ interests after reviewing the code of ethical conduct for MPs in both the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces. In their report tabled to the Houses, committee co-chairpersons Bekizwe Nkosi and Lydia Moshodi made recommendations after the committee reviewed the 2014 code of ethical conduct and disclosure of members’ interests.
