Popcorn Culture - Supercut: Entertaining Vs Challenging Movies

Throughout the month of March, The Lord of the Rings Extended Editions were released in Malaysia for the first time in conjunction with the franchise’s 25th anniversary. The Lord of the Rings, based on J. R. R. Tolkien's magnum opus novel of the same name, is, of course, one of the most celebrated film franchises of all time. It's one of the rare franchises that is beloved by the nerdiest of fans, smashed the box office, went on to win 11 Oscars, and still remains incredibly relevant in contemporary pop culture. In this episode, we review the extended editions and discuss whether they still hold up after all these years. Later on Take Two, we celebrate our favourite things about the franchise, be it characters, moments, rousing speeches, music, glorious battle sequences and more.

First up, what’s been touted as the funniest Pixar movie ever, Hoppers tells the story of Mabel, an animal lover, whose mind is transferred into a lifelike robotic beaver to communicate with animals and save their habitat from human destruction - but along the way, she kinda sorta starts an uprising. Then, we have Project Hail Mary, adapted from Andy Weir’s novel (of The Martian fame), which tells an unusual story of human-extraterrestrial friendship, between two space travellers, each on their own missions. And then on Take Two, we return to an old favourite: What are the best sci-fi movies and series out there?
